Dimension Order in Planning Models
Last Updated 2/22/2012 1:42 AM
When Cascade Planning creates a model the dimensions are internally numbered respectively Dimension1, Dimension 2, Dimension3 etc.
Understanding the order in which the dimension numbers are assigned is an important requirement, especially when writing internal references or references to measures contained in other models.
If the wrong order is specified, the internal reference will not work.
The order of assignment is always as follows:
Dimension 1 is always assigned to the Version dimension.
Dimension 2 is assigned to the last dimension specified in the dimension list.
Dimension 3 is assigned to the next one up the list
.... and so on.
Measure is always the last dimension, as this is considered normally the most frequently changing dimension.
So, given that a model has a list of dimensions as follows with Country and then Product (in the Model Builder list, Country is at the top of the list), then the assignments would be as follows:
Dimension 1 = Version
Dimension 2 = Product
Dimension 3 = Country
Dimension 4 = Measure
