Project Management

Projects provide the infrastructure for the development and management of applications within Cascade Planning. A project is effectively a container which contains the models, model definitions, data, links, reports and scripts for a particular application. Cascade Planning allows the flexibility to define projects that meet the specific application requirements. Individual projects can be backed up and restored, or 'cloned' as required.
Whilst a project is a container for everything related to a particular project, certain components of a project can be defined as 'Local' or 'Global'. The two key areas that this applies to are Period Sets and Currencies & Exchange Rates. If a project uses local Period Sets and Currencies, then the project owner can make changes to these components within the project without affecting other projects. If however a project uses global Period Sets and Currencies, then the models will refer to a common area shared by multiple projects. These common Period Sets and Currencies can be maintained and modified centrally, and any changes made will impact on any project that uses these global components.
To create or maintain global definitions, go to Planning>System Common from the Planning tab.
To create or maintain local definitions, go to [project name]>Modelling>Maintenance from the Project tab.
The following links explain how the various Project Management and System Common facilities work. Click on a link to go directly to that help page.
